Stayed with my children, parents and our dog. Beautiful cosy cottage in a great location. Access to local swimming pool and gym included with the stay. Close to some lovely places to eat and visit. Alison sent a great list of local recommendations.

Cosy Cottage, well kept . Location is good, however outside seating space is not ideal as front door leads a to an access drive and garden space is sperated by drive . seating at back of the house face the parking lot . Apart from that lovely cottage neat and clean . Windows didnt open so it got a bot hot. On departure, we were instructed to strip all the bed sheets etc. as Cleaner had a dust alergy , this was a chore, as we dont do this at home .

Wonderful stay and is definitely worth five stars. The location is quiet and perfect for seeing all that the area has to offer. There are some lovely walks close by and some excellent pubs, we especially liked the Swan. The cottage was a perfect home for the week for our family of 2 adults, 4 children and one small spaniel. It has everything we needed and was lovely and cosy on wet days. The beds are comfortable and the cottage is beautifully decorated. Will definitely stay again

Woodside Cottage was beautiful, well equipped and extremely clean and tidy. It was in a good location with so much to do. I would recommend this cottage. To note, if you have a dog, the main garden area is about 6 meters from the front door, across a private driveway (not belonging to Woodside Cottage). There is a small, enclosed, patio garden with direct access to the back door.

The beds were so comfortable with high-quality bedding and pillows, and every room was beautifully decorated. The little touches and thoughtful details throughout — from the decor to the small items provided — made it such a lovely and memorable place to stay.Alison’s communication from the start of the booking was amazing — she was very accommodating and outstanding throughout. She gave clear instructions on how to get to the property, including photos, and provided a lovely list of places to visit, which we did and would highly recommend. It’s clear she cares for the property with so much attention, making our stay truly relaxing and enjoyable.If we were to go back to the Lake District, we would 100% book with this host again.

Lovely stay, scenery gorgeous. Hosts were kind too! 😀 – Short ceilings, but was perfect for us. If you’re above 6 foot+ maybe look elsewhere unless you wanna hit your head. Very clean, bigger than the pictures suggested. Overall 8/10 stay. I really did like this place. 😞 – Wish it was a little warmer.

Staying in Colton was perfect for our family. The house was spacious and had a lovely garden. Great location for walks and exploring the lakes.

Really nice, spacious cottage and host was fantastic! We were lucky enough to enjoy our wedding day in the cottage. It really made it a cosy wedding evening near the fire. We had our first dance in the spacious living area! Alison went out of her way to help us enjoy our time in the cottage. Super helpful in the run up to the wedding get away and made our stay really special. The cottage was set in a lovely, quiet location to spend time with loved ones and a great location for us to explore the Lake District with our baby and dog.The cottage had everything we needed and more and felt like a real home from home. I would highly recommend this cottage and Alison as a super host if you’re looking for a cosy Lake District holiday! We didn’t want to come home!

Great stay with everything you could need or want for. The house is super warm and the fire lovely! Enough hot water easily for 4 people to shower. Beds super comfy and a great base for hiking the Lake District. We also used the spa which was lovely after a day of hiking!

Excellent location with access to a lot of local attractions, which were mostly accessible by walking. The information provided by the host was very detailed, accurate and comprehensive. All communication with the host was prompt, polite and helpful. The cottage had a well equipped kitchen with plenty of crockery, glasses and mugs. There was no need to constantly wash equipment to reuse it. You could put it in the dishwasher and grab another piece of crockery to use. All appliances were clean and easy to use.The bathrooms were well maintained and clean and the linen provide was pristine. Overall, it was a very comfortable, quiet cottage, ideal for a short break or longer stay for adults or a family with children.

We had the best holiday we have had in years. The cottage is in a peaceful location with Lakeside a short walk away for boat trips and a fantastic hotel for food and drinks. The cottage was very well equipped with everything required for a self catering stay. The beds were comfortable and clean ensuring a good nights sleep.Alison was very proactive and gave some amazing local recommendations such the local walk to High Dam.Highly recommended cottage.

Our stay at this lovely cottage in the Lakes was absolutely perfect for our family! We (my parents, sister, husband, and I) found it incredibly spacious and comfortable for five adults.

The three bedrooms were a huge plus, especially with the added convenience of one being en-suite. Check-in was a breeze, and the cottage is nestled in such quiet and pretty surroundings, offering a truly peaceful escape. We felt completely at home and had more than enough space to relax.

My children have asked if we can return to the same cottage and we’ve never had that before! It had everything we could 😀 – It was cosy, and felt like a warm hug. Its location was absolutely perfect and very quiet at night too. 😞 – This is just a personal thing, but the bed in the master bedroom was far too firm for us. It did have a topper on it, but the mattress itself was very firm. We kept waking up, not able to get comfortable, and suffered with a sore back each morning and slept on pillows and a spare duvet to try and make it comfortable (feeling like the princess and the pea!). I don’t think the other beds were as firm but they were occupied. It’s hard to get beds right as people have different preferences. My mother and father like a firm mattress, but we don’t. That would be my only ‘negative’ comment to make, but it is a personal and subjective one.

Lovely cottage! We had a lot of helpful information from the host Alison as well. Easy walk to High Dam which was really beautiful and lots of nice places a short drive away – but bear in mind you won’t get far without a car. Place was super clean and well stocked, can’t be faulted at all. The passes to the local spa were an added bonus!

We loved our stay at Woodside. Initially, we had difficulty accessing due to an issue with the key safe. Alison and Brian responded quickly, had a great back up plan and we were soon in. Very impressive response to what could have been a bad start to the holiday. The cottage is exactly how it is on the website: spotless, comfortable, well equipped kitchen, fire ready to light and the most comfortable of beds and pillows. The location is fabulous with a lovely little garden. Great walk up to High Dam (3 times as it was an excellent spot for swimming), quick journey to Windermere for paddleboarding and the visit to the Bobbin Mill was a lovely little gem right on the doorstep. We ate out at The Mason’s Arms (Strawberry Bank) which we know well and went to the Brown Horse at Winster for the first, but not last, time; it was amazing. Thank you so much, we’ll be back.

Had a lovely time at this place. The decor was charming and the atmosphere was so welcoming. Just a bit more kitchen equipment would be ideal.

The hosts (both Brian and Alison) were really responsive and helpful. The instructions of how to get to the lodge was very clear. The lodge was very clean. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen and amenities were great.

One tiny wee thing for us is that the lodge allows dogs to get in. We don’t have one and we are a family of 5. There was a gate installed (like a baby gate) before going upstairs. I understand from the host perspective to prevent dogs going upstairs, however having the gate there means that a space going through up and down is quite narrow and it could be a trip hazard. I would recommend if possible not having the gate if their guests don’t have a dog.

A really lovely stay in a beautiful place, very helpful hosts, thank you. 😀 – We really enjoyed our stay! It was lovely to receive a warm welcome and the Christmas card and chocolates were a lovely touch. It was great as well to have access to the local Spa hotel, we really enjoyed the facilities. The cottage itself was very cosy and we enjoyed the local scenery a lot. 😞 – We had some problems with the key box getting in at times but our hosts were very helpful in dealing with this.

Everyone who stays at Woodside say it is cosy and comfortable, is a real home from home , has a great dog friendly pub nearby to walk to and fabulous walks from the door.

FIRST FLOOR
MASTER BEDROOM : This romantic king size master bedroom has been designed for rest and relaxation, you may not want to leave! There’s Egyptian cotton sheets, designer fabrics and a luxury ensuite which is a haven after a hard days sightseeing. With a window seat to sit on and a heated towel rail in the ensuit you can take your ease, really relax and enjoy time with the family or friends
DOUBLE BEDROOM : This romantic bedroom with oversized headboard and beautiful chandelier has Egyptian cotton sheets, designer fabrics and a lovely view down the valley that you will find hard to not just stare out of the window at! you may not want to go home!
TWIN BEDROOM : This bedroom has Egyptian cotton sheets, designer fabrics and colour co-ordinated furnishings.. The matching window seat is ideal to curl up on and read abook. There’s also a toy box for little ones to enjoy.
To compliment the romantic feel all bedrooms have crystal chandeliers, are dressed with designer fabrics and Egyptian cotton bedding with colour co-ordinated luxury towels.
FAMILY BATHROOM: In the family bathroom you can enjoy a power shower or a long leisurly soak in a contempory setting. Toilet and hand basin with heated towel rail.

COTTAGE GARDEN. The garden has seating for 6 and whilst you sit and enjoy the peace and quiet all you can hear are the sounds of the nearby stream and birdsong. The view from the garden is of the distant mountains across the wooded valley.The garden is child and pet safe. The Cottage garden from April- Novemnber has the fire pit available.

Woodside is dog friendly with wooden and tiled floors on the ground floor.
Woodside is a hideaway of PEACE AND QUIET superbly well equipped,it’s an ideal base,many of the attractions can be reached on foot, you can forget the car!.
Woodside’s location is fabulous being so central and within walking distance of Lake Windermere.There’s a file of ‘local walks’, some right from the front door. It is a wonderful area for DOGS with walks from the door and plenty of fields, footpaths etc. 20 GEOCACHES within 2 mile.

LAKESIDE VILLAGE,(10 min walk) the village is the home of the Aquarium of the Lakes, Haverthwaite Steam Railway, Windermere Cruise ships, The ferry to Fell Foot, Lakeside Hotel (4 star restaurant, pub and Spa treatments) Cafe, bus to Motor museum
YMCA lakeside is 1mile away.Here children’s summer day camps are popular.
Segway tours are 1 mile away for an unusual method of seeing the Lakes.
Local gardens are open to the public at Greythwaite hall and Wray Castle (NT) Finsthwaite Village opens its gardens in May.

Grizedale Forest Park offers the complete day out with an extensive range of marked paths, picnic areas, forest roads and tracks and a great adventure playground. The Sculpture trails are great fun and encourage children to explore the woodland. Grizedale provides a day out for all levels of cyclist. There are a range of way-marked trails that lead the cyclist around the forest on forest roads and tracks including the new technical North Face Route. A guide map is included in the Grizedale Map Pack from the Visitor Centre which details all the way-marked routes. Bike Hire is available from the visitor centre including a range of bike sizes and facilities for children. Go Ape! is an aerial assault course of extreme rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip slides.

Local Villages: HAWKSHEAD: A very pretty village in the Lake District is an ideal base for exploring the Lake District National Park. Set in the magnificent Vale of Esthwaite in the heart of the English Lake District between Lake Windermere and Coniston Water. Hawkshead is a truly historic and wonderfully picturesque village characterised by its cluster of whitewashed houses, archways and alleyways, courtyards and squares. A prosperous medieval wool town, its rich history includes important connections with the poet William Wordsworth and children’s story writer and illustrator Beatrix Potter and each have museums devoted to them within the village. The centre of Hawkshead is closed to cars which enhances its character and makes wandering around its narrow winding streets especially rewarding. It offers a good selection of cafes and pubs and local and shops.

We had a lovely Christmas break here. The cottage was beautiful. It is situated just a short walk from the Lakeside ferry port but also a short drive from local amenities. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely stay at Woodside. It was immaculately clean, with lovely Christmas touches set up inside. Log burner was an added bonus to make the evenings extra cosy after a cold day out exploring. The kitchen was set up with everything you could possibly need.
Would recommend, and would stay again.

The cottage was very well laid out and spacious. It was just what we were hoping for. Kitchen and bathrooms were very well equipped , modern and tastefully decorated. Bedrooms and beds were fabulous. The dining area in the kitchen was a great place for all to start and end for each days events. The lounge and fire place were a welcoming end to each full day of exploring. The location is a perfect short walk to the southern end of Windermere Lake. Good local walks with plenty of information and guides at the cottage for hikes both gentle to high challenge. Take you pick! Garden areas and private parking were great too. Alison and Brian sent through plenty of information to set us up for a great stay. We loved, loved, loved our stay. The cottage was lovely and the hosts were very friendly. The front yard isn’t attached to the property (you have to cross a small road), which makes it difficult with pets and children. It would have been helpful to know this upfront (this is unclear from the photographs). The property had lots of bits in it, but we would suggest decluttering so that visitors have space for their things (for example, we only had one cupboard for our groceries). The rooms were lovely (comfortable beds), although I didn’t know how we would fit in a crib/cot (we used a bassinet for our baby).

Comfortable, very clean cottage and very well equipped compared to many rentals. Comfortable sofas. Very responsive host. Beautiful area with lots of lovely places to visit. Quiet location. You do need to walk on narrow roads with blind bends (or drive) to reach off road walks and lakes, just to be aware if this is an issue for your party (eg with toddlers). We would happily book again if needing accommodation in the area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Woodside Cottage and our first visit to the Lakes. The Cottage was very comfortable and clean and the kitchen was very well equipped. The WiFi was very fast and reliable so we could do a little work on the laptop and watch movies on Netflix with no issues. The master bed was very comfortable and the shower had great pressure. The location for the cottage was perfect to explore Lake Windermere as we walked to Lakeside and took the steam ferry from there around the lake to the other towns. We also took the steam train from Lakeside and we enjoyed several evenings at The Lakeside Pub where we and our 10 month old golden retriever were made to feel very welcome. Connor is an excellent mixologist and he created some wonderful cocktails for us! A particular highlight for us was the walk to High Dam from the Cottage every morning. It’s only a few minutes up the road by foot and is such a wonderful scenic walk.

Very cosy cottage with everything you need in a beautiful location

We had a brilliant stay at Woodside. Six of us and a dog and we weren’t tripping over each other. The location was ideal for accessing Windermere and the wider area. Alison provides plenty of useful information and recommendations about the area. The cottage itself is very clean, well looked after, and equipped. We’d be happy to stay here again!

We had a great stay at the cottage. The location is perfect for exploring around Lake Windermere. The cottage had everything we needed and some really great walks right from the front door.

Despite the cottage being near a road it was very quiet. We found it to be really clean and if you worry about dog smell/hair, we had no evidence of that despite the property being dog friendly. The garden was lovely to sit on, with the option of fire pit. We had some poor weather so we just popped to the spa the cottage has access to which was quite the bonus. Very homely place, well equipped and geographically placed for easy access to Windermere ferry and Southern Lakes. Def recommended for 4-5 adults comfortably, or a family of up to six.

Woodside is a fantastic property in an amazing and beautiful location. Highly recommended, will definitely be back soon.

Very nice cosy place close to lovely scenery. 😀 – Very nice place. Self catering but had everything you needed and comfortable with log fire n all. Was self catering and although the entrance close to the main country road you could easily walk from there to some stunning scenery. Recommended and hosts very nice although we only spoke on the phone. 😞 – We thought the pool and other facilitieswould be closer but maybe a mile or 2 drive so still worked out fine to go for a swim/gum/sauna etc

If you are under 6ft you will not be disappointed!! (Ceiling heights are low downstairs) but honestly I loved that. Added to the charm of the cottage. Poor 6ft 6 husband didnt appreciate it!

Had a lovely stay here, was a very clean and comfy cottage. Really enjoyed the log fire and we appreciated the well equipped kitchen as we did cook all our meals over the weekend. Nice peaceful location with some lovely local walks to go on.

Our family had a lovely 2 nights here. The location is pretty and peaceful, yet close to lovely walks and the lake, and is a good base to explore the Lakes by car. The cottage was spotless, everything you could possibly need was provided, and the owners have clearly put lots of thought into it. We’d happily return and would try to stay longer next time!

I would highly recommend this house for anyone who’s looking for a home away from home. Everything is in order and the house itself is very beautiful. The hosts are very helpful with all the travel tips and knowledge of the local area

6 of us stayed at Woodside for a long weekend. The house was cosy and welcoming with some good walks easily accessible from the house. – an ideal spot.

A very cosy and warm cottage to spend a lovely few days away in a fantastic location. We were a bunch of friends that love to get together to cook and drink wine by a fire and this cottage was just perfect. There are some great pubs nearby and some fantastic walks with breathtaking views.
Alison is a great host and very quick at getting back you. I would highly recommend Woodside cottage.

Great cosy little cottage, good for families, lots of little touches like a toy box and children’s books in one of the bedrooms, board games, nice cosy living room. Very practical for a family stay in Cumbria with it’s washing machine and drying machine (we got very wet when cycling around Lake Windermere with the kids, though it was great fun we got caught in the rain). Kitchen in excellent working order. Very helpful hosts.

Lovely relaxing location with places to walk directly from the cottage including the ferry without taking the car.
Fully equipped cottage with great lounge for relaxing evenings at home.

Thanks you very much Alison. We just came back from a fantastic 4 days break in the Lake District, what can I say fantastic host, fantastic cottage and spoilt with lovely weather. Alison was very helpful from day one when we booked the place, every detail was available before you even started your holiday. It just got better once you got there, the cottage is well equipped with everything you need, very clean and beautiful surroundings, not far from lake Windermere, . will be going back to it soon.

A very pretty cottage with everything you need for a Lake District holiday thought of. There was plenty of hot water, WiFi, sky tv and all the cooking equipment you will need. The location is convenient for Lake Windermere and it’s surrounding activities, and has pretty walks on its doorstep. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We have just returned from a long weekend at Woodside Cottage and can’t rate it highly enough. Superbly equipped, delightfully located and reasonably priced, Woodside offered us a perfect base for a weekend in the Lake District. The log fire was splendid, especially as we had a lot of rain; the rooms were comfortable and nicely decorated and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. The cottage is very spacious, and very suitable for a family and dog. Alison and Brian communicated well and provided us with a great deal of information regarding the area which was very useful. I would highly recommend this Cottage… we will certainly return.
